andar de baixo [downstairs]
andar de baixo [downstairs] was the inaugurating exhibition of the newly opened space with the same name, conceived by Marta Pombo. It is a place that now integrates her studio (in the basement) and an exhibition area (on the ground floor). It represents both a literal and symbolic movement: the transition from the studio, previously located in her home on the first floor, to this new context, downstairs.
andar de baixo presents a collection of works that trace a dialogue between different moments of her practice. The series pleurer, pleuvoir c quoi la différence ? (2024) occupies a central position, while works from previous years — including a 2018 collage found during the studio transplant — appear as testimonies of the artist's course. This work, now titled luas (2018-2024), is exhibited in isolation on one of the walls, seemingly observing and silently interacting with the other pieces, in a dialogue between past and present.
